Beau DeMayo, the creator and executive producer of the upcoming Disney+ animated series “X-Men ’97,” has been dismissed from his role just before the scheduled premiere on March 20, Variety has confirmed.
DeMayo had already wrapped up work on the first two seasons of “X-Men ’97” before his departure. He will not be present at the Hollywood premiere scheduled for March 13. Additionally, his Instagram account, where he had been sharing artwork and engaging with fans about “X-Men ’97,” has been deleted.
As the writer and producer of “X-Men ’97,” DeMayo led the project, which serves as a continuation of the beloved “X-Men: The Animated Series” from the 1990s. While the reason for DeMayo’s dismissal remains unclear, it has been confirmed that he will no longer be involved in promoting the show or contributing to future seasons.
DeMayo’s other notable works include writing for the Marvel and Disney+ series “Moon Knight,” starring Oscar Isaac, and the upcoming film “Blade,” featuring Mahershala Ali. He has also contributed to projects such as “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” Netflix’s live-action adaptation of “The Witcher,” and various animated productions like “The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf” and two “League of Legends” shorts.
“X-Men ’97” will see the return of several original cast members from “X-Men: The Animated Series,” reuniting more than three decades after the original series concluded. The new series will continue the story from where the ’90s cartoon left off, with Professor Charles Xavier presumed dead and Magneto assuming control of his legacy. The X-Men, including Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, and others, will face both familiar and new adversaries in a world filled with fear and prejudice.
