Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz Ends Red Bull’s Winning Streak with Victory at Singapore Grand Prix

In an unexpected turn of events at the Singapore Grand Prix, Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz claimed victory, marking the first time this year that Red Bull failed to secure a Formula One race win. The last instance of a non-Red Bull driver winning was in November 2022 when Mercedes’ George Russell triumphed at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Red Bull had been on a record-breaking streak, with Max Verstappen securing ten consecutive wins and teammate Sergio Perez claiming the other victories, resulting in 15 successive triumphs dating back to the previous year.

However, a challenging qualifying session saw Verstappen starting 11th and Perez 13th on the grid, dampening Red Bull’s prospects at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. Verstappen noted the difficulty of overtaking at the track, stating, “On other tracks you can start last and win the race. But not here.”

This setback opened the door for other contenders, and Carlos Sainz capitalized on the opportunity, securing victory from pole position and ending Red Bull’s bid to win every race this season. McLaren’s Lando Norris claimed second place, with Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton finishing third, over a second behind Sainz.

Sainz expressed his satisfaction with the race, stating, “We nailed the race. We did everything we had to do. We did it perfect and we brought home a P1 that I’m sure all Italy and Ferrari is going to be proud and happy.”

Verstappen finished in fifth place, expanding his championship lead with seven races remaining, while Perez secured eighth place. The safety car appeared on lap 20 due to debris on the track from Logan Sargeant’s collision with a wall. Towards the race’s conclusion, the virtual safety car was deployed as Esteban Ocon halted on the track, allowing Hamilton and George Russell to change to new medium tires. Despite both passing Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Russell crashing out in the final stages, they were unable to catch Norris and Perez.
