In an exclusive interview with Scripps News, Lisa divulged the ongoing struggles faced by her 35-year-old son, shedding light on his battle with mental illness.

Jake’s journey with mental health issues began during high school, marked by perplexing episodes where he questioned the nature of reality, leaving his mother at a loss for words. Despite medical consultations diagnosing him with potential bipolar disorder and subsequent medication trials, his condition persisted.

Upon his graduation in 2007, Jake’s challenges escalated, manifesting in paranoid delusions and hallucinations, ultimately leading to a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia. Lisa recounted distressing incidents where Jake’s perception of reality became increasingly distorted, culminating in a harrowing psychotic break in March 2023.

During this episode, Jake turned off his car in the middle of a busy road, prompting police intervention. Following this alarming incident, he commenced an 18-month rehabilitation program, currently halfway through, aimed at stabilizing his condition and facilitating his recovery.

Despite the tumultuous journey, Lisa expressed cautious optimism, noting Jake’s gradual improvement and emerging social engagement within the facility. Furthermore, she dispelled misconceptions surrounding Jake’s relationship with the “Star Wars” franchise, affirming his enduring fondness for the iconic series.

As Jake navigates his path to healing, his story serves as a poignant reminder of the complexities of mental illness and the importance of compassion and support in overcoming its challenges.
